The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) publishes the Global Liveability Ranking every year, ranking 173 global cities for their metropolitan quality of life based on stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure evaluations.
The Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Vienna, the capital of Austria, as the most liveable city among the 172 cities it surveyed in 2022. Vienna had previously won in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, Auckland was named the best city to live in. For seven years running, from 2011 to 2017, Melbourne, Australia, has been named by the EIU as the most liveable city in the world.
The worst city in terms of living, the Syrian capital Damascus is ranked at the bottom. Syria has been battling the war for almost a decade. Tehran, Iran, and Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, are also included in the 10 worst cities. Due to war, the index did not include Ukrainian’s capital Kyiv this time.
