The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is a leading global environmental authority that was established in 1972 as a result of the historic United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (also known as the Stockholm Conference) was an international conference held in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 5 to 16, 1972, under the auspices of the United Nations. It was the United Nations’ first major conference on international environmental issues, and it marked a watershed moment in the evolution of international environmental politics.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks to inspire, inform, and enable nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without jeopardising future generations. It is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
