Around the world, there was widespread news coverage suggesting a breakthrough in inter-Korean relations. The big story was the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea and the friendly tone struck due to the participation of North Korea. In the next two years, because of the efforts of the South Korean Prime minister, hostilities between the two countries were reduced but were short-lived.

For years, the international community and the United States are trying to negotiate an end to North Korea’s nuclear missile development program for denuclearisation. For the same, the deadline North Korea dictated to the United States expired on December 31. This year, North Korea even conducted missile tests sending warning signals.
A new crisis triggered when a defector group sent anti- North propaganda leaflets via balloons across the border. As a result of this, North Korea demolished the liaison office and severed hotlines with South Korea.
Tensions are not only escalating but last two years diplomatic progress seems to fade away too.
