Oxfam urged the government to take action to close the widening gap between the rich and the poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:14px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;Key Findings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\"><li>The world&#8217;s ten richest men have&nbsp;<strong>doubled their fortunes during the pandemic<\/strong>.<\/li><li>For 99% of the global population,<strong>&nbsp;incomes have fallen&nbsp;<\/strong>during the pandemic.<\/li><li>Every day, inequality contributes to the deaths of at least 21,300 people, equivalent to the death of&nbsp;<strong>at least one person every four seconds.<\/strong><\/li><li>The pandemic has pushed gender equality from 99 years to 135 years today, meaning it&nbsp;<strong>will take another generation for women to achieve gender equality.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li><li>The wealthiest 1%<strong>&nbsp;emits more than twice as much CO2&nbsp;<\/strong>as the poorest 50% on the planet.<\/li><li><strong>Women<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>minorities<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>developing countries<\/strong>&nbsp;are hardest hit by growing inequality.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Consequences<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\"><li><strong>Economic violence&nbsp;<\/strong>starts when structural policy choices are made for the richest and most powerful<strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp;It affects the poorest people, women and girls, and racialized groups most.<\/li><li><strong>Good quality healthcare<\/strong>&nbsp;is a human right but is often seen as a<strong>&nbsp;luxury<\/strong>&nbsp;for the wealthy.<\/li><li><strong>Gender-based violence<\/strong>&nbsp;is rooted in patriarchy and sexist economic systems\u2014for example, sex-selective abortion.<\/li><li><strong>Hunger<\/strong>&nbsp;is one of the ways that poverty kills, and it is experienced by billions of ordinary people around the world every day.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Forward<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\"><li>All governments should immediately&nbsp;<strong>tax the gains made by the super-rich<\/strong>&nbsp;during this pandemic period.<\/li><li><strong>Redirect that wealth<\/strong>&nbsp;to save lives and invest in our future<strong>&nbsp;to adapt to climate change<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The legacy of the pandemic must be quality, publicly funded, and&nbsp;<strong>universal healthcare.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Address<\/strong>&nbsp;sexist and racist laws that discriminate against women and&nbsp;<strong>those experiencing racism,<\/strong>&nbsp;and create new&nbsp;<strong>gender equality<\/strong>&nbsp;laws to eliminate violence and discrimination.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Define policies that will&nbsp;<strong>ensure that all decision-making spaces represent women, racialized and other oppressed groups.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Abandon intellectual property rules for COVID19 vaccine technology t<\/strong>o allow more countries to produce safe and effective vaccines to usher in the final phase of the pandemic.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Source : <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2022\/01\/inequality-in-2022-oxfam-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Weforum<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inequality not only creates an unhealthy and unhappy society, but it is also violent. &#8220;Inequality&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":7289,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","portfolio-category":[428,430,426],"class_list":["post-7290","portfolio","type-portfolio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","portfolio-category-428","portfolio-category-january-2022","portfolio-category-newsfeed"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Oxfam Report 2022 and its Key Findings - Politics Science News<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Inequality not only creates an unhealthy and unhappy society, but it is also violent.
