RSF is a non-profit organisation based in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\">The Index ranks countries and regions according to the freedom available to journalists. However, it is not an indicator of the quality of journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Scoring Criteria:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Index&#8217;s rankings are<strong>&nbsp;based on a score ranging from 0 to 100<\/strong>&nbsp;that is assigned to each country or territory, with 100 being the best possible score (the highest possible level of press freedom) and 0 the worst.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Evaluation Criteria:&nbsp;<\/strong>Each country or territory&#8217;s score is evaluated using five contextual indicators: political context, legal framework, economic context, sociocultural context, and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Highlights<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-verse\" style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: justify;\"><li>The report reveals an increase in &#8220;polarisation&#8221; amplified by information chaos, that is, media polarisation fuelling divisions within countries, as well as polarisation between countries.<\/li><li><strong>Norway (1st), Denmark (2nd), Sweden (3rd), Estonia (4th), and Finland (5th)<\/strong>\u00a0took the top positions.<\/li><li><strong>North Korea\u00a0<\/strong>remained at the bottom of the list of 180 countries.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Russia<\/strong>\u00a0was placed at\u00a0<strong>155th position.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>India placed at 150th position.\u00a0<\/strong>Nepal<strong>\u00a0climbed up by 30 points<\/strong>\u00a0in the global ranking at\u00a0<strong>76th position.\u00a0<\/strong>The Index placed\u00a0<strong>Pakistan at 157th position<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sri Lanka\u00a0<\/strong>146th,\u00a0<strong>Bangladesh<\/strong>\u00a0162nd, and\u00a0<strong>Myanmar<\/strong>\u00a0at 176th position.<\/li><li><strong>China<\/strong>\u00a0was ranked at<strong>\u00a0175th position<\/strong>.<\/li><li>This year&#8217;s Index classifies the situation as\u00a0<strong>&#8220;very bad&#8221; in a record 28 nations<\/strong>, while 12 countries, including\u00a0<strong>Belarus (153rd) and Russia (155th), are on the Index&#8217;s red list\u00a0<\/strong>(indicating &#8220;very bad&#8221; press freedom situations).
