By declaring itself a parliamentary republic, Barbados has removed Queen Elizabeth II as the head of the State. Dame Sandra Prunella Mason was sworn in as the first president of Barbados. Mia Amor Mottley is the current Prime Minister of Barbados. Barbados gained independence from the United Kingdom back in 1966 but Elizabeth II remained as Queen of Barbados until now.
