Indian Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife, Madhulika Rawat, and 11 others were among the people who lost their lives in the unfortunate helicopter crash in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. Group Captain Varun Singh was the lone survivor who is in a critical condition and is being treated at a military hospital.

The incident took place when the Indian Air Force’s Mi-17V5 helicopter carrying the nine passengers and four crew members was on its way from an air force base to the army Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, where General Bipin Rawat was to address the faculty and student officers.

The reason for the accident has not been confirmed. Indian Air Force (IAF) has ordered an inquiry into the military chopper crash.
